Sonia Haberstich’s pom-pom works are constructed on convex plastic supports, and generally feature a burningly variegated palette. Their range of meaning runs from Op art eye candy of the extremely fizzy sort, to the implication that the male-dominated history of abstract painting would do well to improve its sense of humour, as well as recognize the contribution and growing importance of women artists. Other purely visual references include pointillism, colour-blindness tests and microscopic landscapes.
