Strawberry Season

Gordana Olujic Dosic

Strawberry Season
2005

Strawberry Season is part of a series that explores contrasts such as trust and betrayal, attachment and loss, timelessness and ephemerality. The title is an allusion to the spring season. This piece as well as the whole series was inspired by my mother’s poignant story about her childhood pet lamb. When I accidentally found a photo of myself, long forgotten, holding a lamb, it inspired me to identify with my mother’s place in the story and think about its symbolism. A series of “bowls” followed, each a container of a related thought and emotion. This particular bowl is ambiguous, it can contain offerings and sustenance but it can also be a sacrificial bowl. Linear simplicity of the thread drawing is complemented by thread texture and fragile material, tulle, is contrasted with the timeless character of the story, with the underlying theme of the universal nature of human experience.
