The Victoria Day long weekend is headed our way! This is an ideal time to get outdoors with family and friends, to enjoy the warmer weather, and appreciate nature in bloom. Here’s how the library can help you to make the best of an extra day for leisure, enjoying hobbies, and being active.
Unwind with a good book
Relax and catch up on some reading outdoors in a chair or hammock. Not sure what to read next? Our staff are knowledgeable about great new books and would be delighted to help you find a new pageturning title.
Did you know that they will even prepare you Personalized Picks based on your favourite authors, genres or that one book that you truly adored? You can also check out our Staff Picks for reading lists to suit every taste.
Long weekends are for the birds
Birds are singing in the trees, visiting ponds and feeders, and showing up on trails. If you’ve always wanted to try birdwatching, borrow one of our birdwatching kits. This is an excellent activity to occupy keen-eyed kids when visiting the cottage or hanging out at a local park (perhaps with one of our park passes).
Sports and leisure for the whole family
Get active outside by borrowing sports equipment or accessories to support outdoor walking, biking and hiking. If the weather gets rainy, board games and puzzles provide another way to break away from too much screentime and make memories together.
How does your garden grow?
The Seed Library at Preston location is full of wonderful options to plant in your garden, balcony or patio spaces. If you need tools for caring for your patch of land, the library has you covered as well with outdoor tools you can borrow. The Express Tools collection is especially valuable if you’re doing a project on the spur of the moment or over a short duration.
Borrowing from the library is a perfect way to make your Victoria Day long weekend low on costs and long on fun.
