Between January 18 and February 4, filming activities will occur in the areas around the Queen's Square and Old Post Office libraries.

Meet Our Staff: Member Services

Rachel and Josie at the Queen’s Square Member Services desk.

If you have called or visited our Queen’s Square location, you may have received help from Rachel or Josie at the Member Services Desk.

As part of the Member Services team at Queen’s Square, they are the first to greet you when you come into the library. Whether it's getting you your first membership card, recommending the next good book to read, or helping members navigate on the public computers, they can help in countless ways.

A highlight for them in working at the library is that it is a hub for so many different people in the community. Libraries are one of the last free public spaces where everyone is welcome to stay, enjoy quality time, borrow favourite items, and learn something new.

What current project of yours are you most excited about?

Rachel: Last year I bought a piece of undeveloped land on the St. John River in New Brunswick. We are planning to slowly develop the land and eventually make the move to the East Coast! It’s both intimidating and exciting imagining what can be done.

My absolute dream would be to build a tree house to live in. Not sure if my partner is sold on that yet though.

Josie: I am looking forward to the new programs and books coming to the library in 2025. I enjoy creating fun book displays that are accessible to all members, as well as helping out with the programs and being involved in the community.

What are your hidden talents or hobbies?

Rachel: I’m not going to go as far as saying it’s a talent, but my favorite thing to do is put on drum and bass music and DANCE! I love the freedom that music and dancing allows. My weekends usually involve Saturday night dance parties in the living room with my kids.

I also love getting out into nature, road trips, travelling new places, and trying new foods.

Josie: In my spare time, I enjoy nature walks and being out in the fresh air. I also enjoy knitting and creating knits for my family. Another passion of mine is cooking for my family and trying new recipes.

What is your favourite book to re-read or movie to re-watch?

Rachel: My first year of the Social Service Program I had to read the Miguel Ruiz book, The Four Agreements. This book has become a staple in my life. I remember reading it for the first time and how much of an impact it left on me.

As far as a movie or series that I re-watch, it’s The Office. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen it. It can always make me laugh.

Josie: Pride and Prejudice has been a favourite book and movie of mine since my teen years. I appreciate the family dynamics and how they are supportive of each other. I have my edition from high school and a few special editions. My favourite movie adaptation is the one with Keira Knightley, because of the costumes and cinematography.
