We are excited to announce that a new video magnifier is now available at Queen’s Square. This assistive technology device can help people with vision loss and impairments read, write, and view texts and images.
What is a video magnifier?
A video magnifier is an electronic device with a camera, display screen, lights, and a movable table. When you place an item onto the table, the camera transfers the image onto the display screen. The movable table is connected to the screen, so materials can be easily and smoothly panned around beneath the screen. Our video magnifier has easy-to-use controls, including 16 levels of zoom, as well as colour and brightness filters.
How do you use the video magnifier?
There are three brightly-coloured knobs on the front of the screen to control magnification of your document or image, colour modes, and brightness filters.
The video magnifier is available on the first floor of our Queen’s Square location for use during open hours. Anyone can use the video magnifier for up to two hours on a first come, first served basis.
