Book Club in a Bag kits offer our members an opportunity to participate in meaningful conversations, driven by inspiring stories and ideas. Dozens of titles are available through these kits, all selected because they are powerfully written and spark conversations. Each kit includes eight copies of a book and supporting materials to assist in leading thought-provoking conversations.
Hospice Waterloo Region and the Library
This fall, Hospice Waterloo Region will not only lead two events as part of our Connections 50+ series, Advance Care Planning (Friday, October 11) and Hospice 101 (Friday, November 8), but they have also collaborated with our staff on the development of a new Book Club in a Bag kit on the topic of death and dying. Reading a book and engaging with others on these themes can help to ease the difficulties around such an emotional topic.
New Book Club in a Bag
For this new Book Club in a Bag kit, Hospice Waterloo Region has selected the tile, Death Interrupted: How Modern Medicine is Complicating the Way We Die by Blair Bigham. This National Bestseller shares Bigham’s first-hand experiences navigating the complicated roadmap of dying in the 21st century. It includes conversations with critical care and end-of-life professionals. Ethicists. Social Workers. Nurses. It’s a book that tackles big questions and the experts at Hospice Waterloo Region have contributed questions that will lead to an enriching, clarifying conversation - a conversation we all need to have.
Starting Friday, October 11, members can place this Book Club in a Bag kit on hold for pick-up at the location of their choice.
If there are other difficult topics that you are seeking information on, please pick up a Tough Topic bookmark at our locations or speak to a staff member you feel comfortable with.
