Patina Du Prey's Baby Hair Dress I

Patina Du Prey's Baby Hair Dress I
1992

Chrysanne Stathacos's Patina du Prey's Baby Hair Dress I & II revolve around her fictitious alter-ego Anne de Cybelle, a 19th century woman artist, whose creative expressions were thwarted by the academy: She is a paradigm of the countless creative women who have sublimated  their expressive voices into the domestic arts.

"Frustrated in her attempts to be an established artist, de Cybelle took matters into her own hands. She solved this problem by putting her creative energies into the garments she wore."

Stathacos creates the art Anne de Cybelle wanted to do but could not. The garments are creations of her alter-ego, made for Anne to wear, patterned with human hair as a badge of her rebellion.
