Sea Anemone I

Yvonne Wakabayashi

Sea Anemone I
2004

Yvonne Wakabayashi's visual expression is a blending of cultural sensibilities of east and west; old and new; both in ideas and processes.  The textile history of Japan inspires and connects her to her familial heritage. Western ideas and processes combine and give further meaning to Wakabayashi's work, which continues to evolve to layer and enrich the fabric surface.

The Sea Anemone series involved wrapping heavily sized silk, then these shapes were assembled to form the 3 dimensional sculpture.
