Sheila McMath
Tissues & Trimmings Series #2
2005
2005
This object is part of a series called Tissues and Trimmings. Sheila McMath's sculptural works are constructed from various collected materials including decorative fabric, pins, fur, ribbon and feathers. These materials are reconfigured into hybrid objects that celebrate ornamentation and question traditional definitions of femininity. She is interested in highlighting her subversive intervention on the materials while simultaneously allowing them to maintain a trace of their original essence. MCMath's intention is to construct objects that are both sensually enticing and thought-provoking, both beautiful and troubling.
