Welcome to the Village

Shuyu Lu

Welcome to the Village
2010

Shuyu Lu stitched these chubby Chinese kids with typical Western fast foods onto the toile and make them fit the scenes. They are from the old-time Chinese propaganda, holding the flowers and representing the future and the hope of the country originally. The harmonious but a little awkward scenes intend to allude to the “global village” today. Her work attempts to question – in this complex, excited and globalized world  – what our treasure is and what we should treasure.
