Meet Our Staff: Outreach Services

Amanda and Pam at Queen's Square

The Coordinator of Volunteer Services and the Coordinator of Adult Programs and Events are vital members of our Marketing and Outreach department. Amanda is responsible for the amazing team of community volunteers who help the library in countless ways. Pam oversees dynamic adult programming and events throughout the libraries and galleries.

Through their work and welcoming nature, Amanda and Pam help to create a community gathering place that inspires creativity and personal discovery.

What current project of yours are you most excited about?

Amanda: I am so excited to plan our Volunteer Appreciation events. Finding ways to show our volunteers how much they mean to the organization is extremely rewarding. From food to decorations, themes, and more, I absolutely love seeing these events come to life and being able to share in this wonderful time with volunteers. It is particularly moving to hear their stories, how they started and how Cambridge Public Library has been part of their journey.

Pam: There are so many fantastic programs - it’s hard to pick just one I’m most excited about. If I had to choose, I’d say the upcoming Author Evenings (we have some bestselling authors coming), the Family History workshops, Connections 50+ launching at Preston, and any Gallery opening.

What are your hidden talents or hobbies?

Amanda: I’m in my sports era right now! On weekends, I’m usually trying to keep up with my kiddos at the swimming pool, skating rink, or soccer fields. I also enjoy watching football on Sundays with my husband (Go Bills!).

After family time, it’s really important for me to give back to my community. From volunteering at a community center, local runs in support of cancer research and even planning day trips to Toronto, I’m always looking for new ways to get involved.

Pam: Outside of work you’ll often find me kayaking, hiking, staying active with friends and travelling. These activities feed my soul and rejuvenate me.

My most adventurous pursuit, sea kayaking, pushes me outside my comfort zone and has inspired me to take safety courses, explore Fathom Five National Marine Park and visit the 44 locks on the Trent Severn Waterway.

For 2025, the goal is to paddle the Rideau Canal, along with paddling and camping in Georgian Bay Islands National Park.

What is your favourite book to re-read or movie to re-watch?

Amanda: I find myself rewatching the TV series Schitt’s Creek lately. It makes me laugh and I think we all need something to make us smile these days.

I haven’t re-read too many books for myself; however, The Stinky Feet Monster by Jamie Michalak is a staple in our household. It’s a great mix of silliness, colourful pictures and longer text for growing readers.

Pam: Some of my favourite books over the years include The Giver, Some Girls, Some Hats and Hitler, The Maid, and The Painted Girls. Right now, you’ll find me immersed in maps and navigation charts, or enjoying travel videos and feel-good movies. I’m also, obsessed with researching the best spots for chai tea, coffee, and diverse food, and then, of course, trying them all. Yummy!
