Celebrate Earth Day

Garden toys, play clay, and other earth themed toys on a mat.

April 22 is Earth Day, a global celebration of our planet and a call to action for its protection.

This year’s theme, The Power of Collective Action, reminds us that no person is too young or too old to join hands in safeguarding the future of our planet. At the library, we treat Earth Day as a special opportunity for families to build their nature literacy together and begin those first conversations around our shared responsibility as environmental stewards.

One Seed, One Community

Our Preston location welcomes everyone to a fun-filled Earth Day celebration featuring nature-based games, crafts, and activities for the whole family. This year’s chosen One Seed One Community seed will be shared and available at the event.

One Seed One Community is an initiative that unites our community through the shared experience of saving seeds and growing food.

Earth Day for Kids

Since we believe Earth Day is every day, we offer a variety of nature-based programming year-round. This spring, join us for Nature Pals at Preston, a weekly program that invites kids (Ages 5 – 10) to discover the joys of growing plants and exploring the wonders of the natural world.

Continue your family’s environmental exploration at home with materials from our collections for kids. Check out new nonfiction children’s books on environmental movements like rewilding, Indigenous-led conservation, and sustainable infrastructure

For a more interactive learning experience, try the Nature & Environment line of Launchpad tablets or browse the TumbleBook Library in the Virtual Library for curated playlists of eBooks and eAudiobooks on subjects such as ecology, insects, and animal camouflage.

Make every day Earth Day with a visit to your library.
